چکیده

Low-energy electron-impact hydrogen loss due to dissociative electron attachment (DEA) to the uracil and thymine molecules in a water cluster environment is investigated theoretically. Only the A(')-resonance contribution, describing the near-threshold behavior of DEA, is incorporated. Calculations are based on the nonlocal complex potential theory and the multiple scattering theory, and are performed for a model target with basic properties of uracil and thymine, surrounded by five water molecules. The DEA cross section is strongly enhanced when the attaching molecule is embedded in a water cluster. This growth is due to two effects: the increase of the resonance lifetime and the negative shift in the resonance position due to interaction of the intermediate negative ion with the surrounding water molecules. A similar effect was earlier found in DEA to chlorofluorocarbons.

بررسی اثر محلول بر طیف EPR ناشی از رادیکال‌های آلانین بر پایه نظریه تابعی چگالی

In this study, based on Density Functional Theory (DFT), the effect of solution on the g-tensor, hyperfine coupling constant of atoms and finally the EPR spectrum of alanine free radicals induced by ionizing radiation such as electron and gamma was investigated using implicit models such as COSMO, and explicit models such as introducing hydrogen bonds to the cluster structures. The obtained res...

Bond- and Site-Selective Loss of H Atoms from Nucleobases by Very-Low-Energy Electrons (<3 eV)Financial support from the FWF (Vienna), the EU commission (Brussels) through the EPIC Network, and the DFG (Bonn) is gratefully acknowledged

Excess charge deposited on gas-phase thymine (T) and uracil (U) by resonant attachment of low-energy (0–3 eV) electrons induces the loss of hydrogen, which exclusively takes place from the N positions. This bond selectivity can be made site selective by properly adjusting the electron energy. While electrons at 1 eV result in loss of hydrogen from N1, the reaction can be switched to loss of hyd...

Nature of the stacking of nucleic acid bases in water: a Monte Carlo simulation.

The results of a Monte Carlo simulation of the hydration of uracil and thymine molecules, their stacked dimers and hydrogen-bonded base pairs are presented. Simulations have been performed in a cluster approximation. The semiempirical atom-atom potential functions have been used (cluster consisting of 200 water molecules). It has been shown that the stacking interactions of uracil and thymine m...

Photoelectron spectroscopy and density functional theory studies on the uridine homodimer radical anions.

We report the photoelectron spectrum (PES) of the homogeneous dimer anion radical of uridine, (rU)(2)(●-). It features a broad band consisting of an onset of ∼1.2 eV and a maximum at the electron binding energy (EBE) ranging from 2.0 to 2.5 eV. Calculations performed at the B3LYP∕6-31++G∗∗ level of theory suggest that the PES is dominated by dimeric radical anions in which one uridine nucleosid...
